Today was the day Shereen became my Angel - the Angel who made me whole! We were married by the equivalent of a Justice of the Peace in the morning, and later in the afternoon, a reception at the Hilton Hotel. After the reception, we boarded a train for Ankara - I recall how excited we were as this was the first time either of us had been on a 'sleeper' train - we both thought of it as being on the Oriental Express! (which coincidentally was in the station at the same time we boarded our train). We spent a week sightseeing in Ankara and surrounding areas/spas/etc., and then back to Istanbul where life as a married couple began. I still had three months left on my tour of duty in Turkey, and we were both looking forward to my (our) next tour which was Scotland. Shereen absolutely loved traveling, so she was very excited not only to be going to Scotland, but loved all the other duty stations we eventually got to during the 17 years I still had left before retiring from the Marine Corps. (Well, she wasn't too crazy about visiting Vietnam with me, so I went by myself and Shereen and Denise stayed with Shereen's mother in Germany for a year). And, as luck would have it, after Vietnam my next duty station was Germany! More on our travels and in future Chapters - please visit again!
